Wedgewood Cup XVII Re-Cap

Garden Valley Golf Club was once again the site for a WWC. It had been (3) years since we last visited GVCC. We weren’t sure what to expect. A new green side condo had been built next to the 18th green. While it was nice, it didn’t have the same sleeping arrangements as the one we had previously stayed in. We had to make due. Seems the owners son was living in the one we used to stay in and he had accumulated quite the collection of possessions outside. Not attractive and not impressive. The only thing missing was a clothes line.

We settled in and got started with our 4 man Krewe event.

It was a close match but when it came down to the finish both teams tied (you heard that right TIED) for the 4-Man Krewe event. A first in the long lived WWC history.

Best Ball 2-Man teams kicked off in the afternoon. S. Lacy and K. Jones took the top spot in this round, so after the first day these two guys were in the lead. On day 2 first round was the 2-man Krewe. K. Jones and T. Kennedy took the top honors in that round and we had split for second place between the teams of Starnes/B. Lacy and Melton/Patterson each player getting 2.5 points.

The afternoon round of day 2 was the infamous Alternate Shot. Again another split at the top between the teams of S. Lacy/Melton and Patterson/Hughes with each player getting 3.5 points.

Unfortunately at the end of day 2 the leader Karl Jones had work duties and had to drop out of the event. And he was in the lead! With 13 points! A notable player and multi past winner S. Lacy stepped up in the Mano A Mano round on the final day and took home the trophy with a margin of 3.5 points with D. Patterson in solo second.

Guess you could say Garden Valley had seen it’s better days. A few obstacles and special rulings we had maneuver thru around the greens.

All in all we still had a great event, great food, entertainment, and some night putting for good measure!

We had entertainment, a great champions dinner, and in the end it was Scott Lacy bringing home the CUP for his 5th WWC win!!

Congrats Scott!!
