Wedgewood Cup XXII: A Triumphant Return to Pine Dunes April 17–19, 2025 | Frankston, TX

Sixteen years after our last visit, the Wedgewood Cup made its long-awaited return to Pine Dunes Golf Club, and it couldn’t have felt more like a homecoming. Nestled in the pines of East Texas just two hours from Dallas, Pine Dunes greeted us with classic Texas hospitality, some feisty winds, and a course that lived up to its reputation as one of the state’s finest.

We arrived on Thursday, April 17, and checked into the newly-built cabins, which were a fantastic upgrade—modern, cozy, and perfectly suited for post-round hangouts. While we didn’t have access to the lodge this time around, the charm of Pine Dunes didn’t miss a beat. We even had a starter who kept the local squirrels well-fed, much to our amusement. And in a small-world twist, we had the chance to meet the course owner, Jodi Lutz, who couldn’t have been more welcoming.

The blue tees proved challenging, especially with a slope rating of 135, and the wind on Thursday and Friday didn’t make things any easier. Gusty conditions tested every aspect of our games, but by Saturday, things calmed down and the scores tightened up—right when it mattered most.

As always, we played five different formats across three days: 4-Man Krewe, Best Ball, 2-Man Krewe, Alternate Shot, and Mano-a-Mano. And as you’ll see from the attached scoreboard, Scott Lacy delivered a dominant performance, scoring a perfect 4 points in each round to claim the Wedgewood Cup crown with a 17-point total. The competition was fierce, but Scott played lights-out all weekend, especially in those blustery conditions. Lacy even had a hole-in-one during the 2 man krewe on hole #3 from 130 yards out….now that’s BIG!

We also handed out long drive and closest to the pin honors, adding some extra spice to each round. Shoutout to KJ, LS, SL, TK, CM, and SS for their clutch swings.

This trip was more than just a competition—it was a nostalgic nod to the past. Many of us still remember when Golf Digest’s Matt Ginella surprised us here back in 2009 and featured our Wedgewood Cup crew in a national story. Pine Dunes holds a special place in our golf journey, and this year’s return only deepened that connection.

Until next time—cheers to birdies, brotherhood, and a course that continues to challenge and inspire.

Wedgewood Cup XXII – in the books, and one for the ages.
