WWC XVIII – The Home of Golf

It’s like stepping back in time in the land of tall pines. A short drive from RDU or CLT, you feel like something special is about to happen the closer you get. Wedgewood Cup XVIII was one of those “must-do” experiences. We knew we were in for something special.

The Carolina Inn

Once you arrive and check in you are handed your bag tag which has all the dates, courses, and tee times listed for your upcoming adventure. There is a myriad of shuttles that move people and bags from course to course. (quite a feat I might add) We had booked an afternoon round on The Cradle, a fun short course where all that’s needed is a wedge and putter. We would begin to enjoy some libations, explore The Cradle, and have some fun.

That evening we would head to dinner at the Pinehurst Brewing Company.

Day 1 – We would tee off at 8 am on Pinehurst #3 and would rush to the first tee box. BTW, where was the first tee box? It was the pro-shop uni’s vs losing past cups uni’s (how classic of an idea)

That afternoon we would play 2 man krewe on Pinehurst #7

The walls within the Carolina Inn and the clubhouse are lined with history.

Day 2 we started out on the famed Pinehurst #2 course and rain was in play on the first 3 holes.

In the afternoon we would head over to Pinehurst #9 for our 4th round.

We would have more rain that afternoon.

Day 3 started with sunshine, here’s some early morning shots from our final day.

Mano y Mano would begin on Pinehurst #4, and our starter wanted us to keep up the PACE.

We would finish the afternoon by a having a “few” rounds on The Cradle…..simply greatness!

That evening we would have our Champions Dinner at the Carolina Inn, followed by trophy presentation back at the cottage. Our champ for 2022 would be Scott Lacy winning by one point. Congrats Scott!
