Starnes Scores Second Win in Tight Race for Wedgewood Cup XVI

Top of Rock and Big Cedar Golf located deep in the Ozarks was the sight for Wedgewood Cup XVI.  A short drive from Table Rock Lake, this year’s cup had a question mark from the get go due to COVID-19.  Timing, as they say, is everything.

Some of the crew arrived early enough on Wednesday to get in a nine hole round at Top of The Rock.  This was the premier (as in $143) nine hole course featured on The Champions Tour.  BTW, that price does not include a replay.  Cave tour was free.

For this year’s Cup we took all precautions. With COVID-19 we had reserved a large house, took social distancing measures, and even had our own WEDGEWOOD CUP masks supplied by our commish.

The first day of true competition was on Thursday and we were greeted by the overzealous staff of Ozark National. Four-man krewe kicked things off with Team USA vs Team White/Black. While the snazzy uni’s were all the rage, they were no match for play of Team White/Black in the end.

Team WHITE / BLACK walks off #18 with win in hand

2-Man Best Ball was that afternoon back on Ozark National, and after Day 1 our friendly guest player Richard Parker found himself in the lead.

The Ozarks have been doused with rain prior to our arrival and on Day 1 we were restricted to cart path only. ( a beat down on the Coore & Crenshaw designed Ozark National)

Day 2 would open up with sunny skies and we would get underway on the Buffalo Ridge Springs course 2-Man Krewe and Alt Shot.

It was on Day 2 with the photo below that other professionals chose to make the same statement as us. And that was, “Be strong together, but be safe together!”

The Photo that made headlines

With a new course and a fresh outlook the 2-Man Krewe had (2) splits. Had this ever been done? And the ALT SHOT round was won overwhelmingly by the team of STARNES/T.KENNEDY. Finally some fairways opened up but mostly late in the day. Step counts continued to increase as did the competition.

And here’s where we stood at the end of DAY 2.

The Final day of competition was as good as it gets. Great golf back again at Ozark National (they were so excited to see us again…..and offer us great rates I might add), an exclusive putting competition after all the golf we had played, and a fantastic champions dinner.

How can we forget the great time we all had. Images can only tell the story. Until next year!
