Sand Valley Holes 8-11 (cont.)

Today we continue our look at Sand Valley with holes 8-11.  Let’s get started.  Hole #8 is a short par 3 and we will be playing from the orange tees at 115 yards.

The tee shot is uphill to an elevated green.  It’s a narrow green to hit and a steep drop off to the right side.

The green is long (42′) but narrow.  Here’s a shot from the back of the green looking back towards the hole, so depending on where the pin is, you could have a long putt.  Makes this short hole a bit more challenging.

The 9th hole is a good chance for birdie.  It’s a short (290) yard par 4 that has some risk / reward.

A big tee shot (300) yards will put you on the green but it needs to be precise.  Most folks will lay up short of the green and try and stick it close on this multi-level green.  Here’s a look at that approach.

As you can see the green is guarded by trees both right and left, and bunkers in the front on each side.

Hole # 10 is a par 5 at 541 yards.

As you can see from the yardage book and the shot below it’s a pretty wide open tee shot.  You just have to watch out for that bunker in the MIDDLE of the fairway.

From your drive, you’ll need to hit a second shot to the left side of the fairway.  The approach to the green is better.  If you go right there is large bunkering you’ll be forced to deal with.   Here’s the approach to the green.

It’s another long and somewhat narrow green.

The 11th hole is a somewhat manageable par 4.  Not a lot of tricks here until you reach the green.  If you end up short on your approach there is a false front on the green that will send the ball back down the hill.

Here you can see how the hole doglegs back to the left.

That’s it for this post.  We will wrap up the remaining holes next week covering #12-#18.
